About the Curvin Recreation Center
As a rural recreation center, our organization serves as a vital gathering place and resource hub, dedicated to empowering and uplifting individuals and families in our community. In an area where access to recreational, educational, and support services can be limited, we provide essential programs and opportunities that promote wellness, personal growth, and strong community connections.
We offer a wide range of activities and services that meet the diverse needs of our rural population. These include youth and adult sports such as basketball, volleyball, and softball; community-wide events like festivals and our annual Back-to-School Bash; teen forums that address mental health awareness and support; summer lunch programs to help combat food insecurity; and technology workshops that build digital skills and confidence. Through these programs, we serve more than 100 individuals each year, offering not just recreation, but real opportunities for learning, growth, and connection.
In collaboration with Macedonia Community Development Center and other local partners, we strive to create an inclusive, supportive environment where everyone has access to the resources and encouragement needed to reach their full potential.
Our mission is rooted in compassion, inclusivity, and empowerment—and our vision is to build a resilient, united community where all members can thrive. By promoting health, education, and engagement through our programs and partnerships, we are helping to build a stronger, healthier future for our rural community.

History of the Curvin Recreation Center

On March 11, 1971 the Henry Curvin Recreation Center was deeded to the Trustees of Young People’s Club, an unincorporated organization of Long County, Georgia and their successors in office. The real estate was donated for the benefit of the young people in the 16th District of Long County. It is to be used as a recreational center.
The Curvin Recreation Center has hosted reunions, community events, and a number of sports activities including volleyball, baseball, and basketball. It continues to serve the community as place of laughter, unity, and memorable moments.
